Our current headquarters is an ex-RAF building that was originally sited at
RAF Hartlebury. The building is believed to be in excess of 75 years old.
Prior to it moving to Stourport, it was an indoor shooting range. However, when
RAF Hartlebury was decommissioned, the building was cut in half and moved to
it's current location. Here it was erected over the old cricket pavilion, which
was then dismantled and brought out through the door, in pieces.
The building became the home to Europa Venture Scout Unit, before being donated,
by them, to the District Explorer Scout Unit.
As can be seen from the photograph the building has become very tired and
difficult to maintain. Therefore prior to the end of Venture Scouting in the UK,
Europa Venture Scouts set about obtaining planning permission for a new hut, for
the Explorer Scout Unit. Planning permission was finally obtained in 2004 for a
brick built building to replace our current home
The image on the right gives an artist's impression of how the new building
will look. The building will have a similar layout to the current building but
with improved storage space and kitchen as well as toilet facilities.
The expected cost of the new building is around £75,000. Work is now being
undertaken to try and raise this money so that building works may commence in
the not too distant future.
